Instructions for programming a DirecTV remote to your TV

There are primarily two types of remote, and you may have any one of them for sure.

• Newer version Genie
• Old white remote

We use the same set of codes when programming both remotes to our TV, but we’ll use a separate process to make it compatible.

Anyway, Ideally it’s good to use 5-digit codes. So, be ready with the code

Program a DirecTV new Genie remote to the TV

• Simultaneously press and hold the SELECT & MUTE button until the light blinks twice on the top of the remote
• Then enter the first digit of the DirecTV remote code that you find for your TV brand
• Wait for the GREEN light flashes twice
• Then enter the remaining 4 digits of the 5-digit code
• Point your remote to the TV, and press the OFF button. The TV will turn OFF
• If not turned OFF, try using another code from the list

Suppose, you may have a Vizio TV, and want your DirecTV Genie remote compatible with it.

From the code list given above, I have selected code 10178.

Once your remote is given the indication that the light blinks twice when you press and hold on the MUTE+SELECT button, enter the digit 1 (Which is the first digit of the 5-digit code 10178)

Here no need to enter all 5 digits, as we do in other universal remotes.

Wait, and when the GREEN light flashes twice, now enter the remaining 4 digits, here 0, 1, 7, and 8.

That’s it.

Programming OLD DirecTV remote (White color)

Find the SELECT and MUTE keys, Now press and hold down the keys same time till the LED on the remote blinks twice.

Then simply enter all the digits on the code straight forward using the number key.

If the remote LED light blinks in GREEN color indicates that it has accepted the code, and paired with your device.

Then aim your remote at the TV, and press the POWER button whether the pairing process is completed successfully.

Wait till any storm or heavy wind pass

If you encounter error code 775 during heavy rain, storm, or windy conditions outside, please be patient and wait for the weather to improve. The issue will likely be automatically resolved once the adverse weather passes.

If the issue persists even after the storm passes, you should check whether any obstacles cover the outer surface of your dish antenna. During heavy winds, leaves, debris, or plastic wrappers may accumulate on the dish surface, causing signal interruptions.

You don’t need to check the dish alignment and positioning, because it will not cause the 775 error code.

Fix the access card misplacement

A small position change of the access card can cause the error message 775 on your DirecTV. An access card is a chip-installed card that can be inserted into your receiver box to recognize your DirecTV subscription.

To fix it in an effective way, remove the card from the socket. clean it if any dust particles are accumulated on the card, especially in the chip-connected portion. Then insert it back into the socket. start your receiver again and see the issue fixed.

Check the power inserter

The power inserter is a junction box you should use with your DirecTV receiver. I think all of the users will hide it behind the TV and won’t pay any attention to it once it is installed at the beginning.

Ensure that the power inserter sends power toward the dish, not the box, as it is a one-directional power flow. If it’s placed incorrectly, it may send power to the box, leaving the dish without power. If you are getting confused in dealing with the power inserter, seek help from DirecTV customer support.

Have you recently unplugged all the connections on the power inserter, a possibility that you may swap the connection cable? Check it then.

DirecTV screen freezing may be due to bad weather, the weak signal from the dish, obstacles around the antenna, a misplaced antenna, faulty wiring, and other electronic interference. Once you find the pixelating issue, you can check around these factors to fix the problem.

If you found the display freezing on your DirecTV streaming and on-demand, check the internet WiFi connection whether is strong enough.

How to fix the DirecTV freezing issue?

Let’s try to solve this by doing all the troubleshooting tips.

Wait till the bad weather gets cleared

The skipping and pixelation problem is due to the bad weather condition, it’ll be solved once the weather condition is OK. Unconditional heavy rain or snowfall may usually break the signal strength and cause a low-quality signal to reach the DVR box and may cause this issue.

So, wait till the weather condition is fine. Once you see a clear sky and no heavy clouds, check your TV if it is solved or not.

Make sure that there is no snow accumulated on the surface of your DirecTV antenna, if so, gently remove it without applying so much force on the antenna. When you force on it, the chance of the antenna getting misplaced from the recommended position and losing all the signals.

Remove any obstacles around the dish

One of the main reasons for the Direct TV freezing issue is due to the obstacles around the dish that disrupt the proper reception of the satellite signals. The limbs of trees that grow may be covered the dish so that can’t establish a connection to the satellite.

Check if any tree limbs are over the antenna, and remove them.

One of my friends got this error and when he check on his antenna, a plastic polythene cover has been covered, and when he removed that, the pixelating issue was resolved.

I can see that a lot of people place a small bowl on the top of the LNB (Low-noise block downconverter) in order to protect the device from the rain. I hope you all understand what I mean.

LNB is a small device attached to the antenna that accepts satellite signals and sends them to the receiver.

Once it has covered (Fully or partially), and can’t receive the signals, you feel a DirecTV freezing error.

Really, you don’t need protection for the LNB, just leave it as such.

Check the DVR box is responding to the remote control

Basically, two types of freezing issues are there. One is the freezing and skipping because of the signal issue, another one is the DirecTV receiver freezing.

Your TV/Box won’t respond to the IR remote commands like channel changes, volume control, etc. In such cases, in order to solve the issue, you should restart your Genie receiver box. Just unplug the receiver from the power for a few seconds and re-connect it.

Once you confirm that the issue with the box occurs frequently, try to update its software with the guidance of the DirecTV support center. That’ll permanently solve the error.

Avoid other electronic device interference

Check for any nearby electronic devices that may interrupt the signals. There are a few electronic devices or equipment like cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, Microwave ovens, wireless video game controllers, etc that can interfere with DirecTV signals and cause the picture freezing.

In order to confirm that was a real reason, just keep all of them in another room and check if the issue is with your TV.

Update the DirecTV app if the error happens on a smart TV/smartphone
